Film Tidbits

I got an entirely unprovoked shoutout from James over on his blog so I thought i should really do an update! (btw my blog REALLY needs a makeover... sigh)

Here are a few design explorations for my fourth year film's character. I was aiming for the 40s 50s cartoon feel, inspired by my childhood cartoons like Little Lulu, with a "Mary Blair and Freddie Moore" flare (maybe even some Charley Brown in there?! haha)
It is a simple story so I thought I should keep the character simple and streamlined and go for appeal.

This was the very first sketch where I felt like I had the feel for the character

Then I came up with this, which is loosely based off a real little girl I drew recently, she had a really deep, solemn gaze and maturity about her. I keep coming back to this frizzy/curly haired look...and I think I'm going to go in this direction.

It's still a work in process!

These are from life drawing class we had this week, where we had to take the live model and superimpose our film characters to help in construction of the character and model sheets.

lol this was the model on break

Thanks for viewing!
